A Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) Qualified Net Zero Builder is a builder who has met stringent technical requirements and undergone specialized training to construct Net Zero and Net Zero Ready Homes under CHBA’s Net Zero Home Labelling Program. These professionals go beyond standard building codes, using advanced construction techniques to deliver homes with:

How Do Builders Become CHBA Net Zero Qualified? 

Becoming a CHBA Qualified Net Zero Builder is an intensive process requiring: 

  • CHBA Membership – Ensuring builders meet warranty and insurance requirements. 
  • Advanced Building Science & Net Zero Training – Specialized education on energy-efficient construction with a passing exam grade of 75%. 
  • EnerGuide RegistrationBuilders must register with Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) EnerGuide Rating System (ERS) before constructing their first CHBA Net Zero Home. 
  • Hands-On Experience – Builders must successfully label their first Net Zero Home. 
  • Ongoing Development – Maintaining the designation through continued training in ongoing CHBA Net Zero education and at least one Net Zero or Net Zero Ready Home must be labelled every three years
